COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) — Columbus councilmen are exploring ways to help people improve their living condition.

The Columbus City Council spent almost 30 minutes Tuesday night debating how best to reapply for state housing funds that could refurbish as many as five dilapidated houses in the city.

Last week, they voted not to resubmit last year’s application with three houses in Ward 1.

A majority said they wanted to see if they could find homes in other wards.

That search prompted Tuesday night’s debate. In the end, the council voted to stick with the same application after Community Development Coordinator Christina Berry said the city had plenty of rundown homes but none that better met the grant guidelines than than the three already selected.
