COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI)- Some Columbus firefighters are helping search crews look for missing people in communities with severe storm damage.

Authorities say teams of searchers are looking for three people still missing in Holly Springs after Wednesday’s tornadoes.

The overall storm death toll is now at least 10 people who were killed in Mississippi, Tennessee and Arkansas.

Mississippi Emergency Management Agency spokesman Greg Flynn said four people have been confirmed dead in Benton County and two were killed in Marshall County.

Columbus Fire Department Engineer Dale Ballard, says fire fighters are trained and ready to help in situations like this.

“We got three fire personnel that are up in Holly Springs area, up in North Mississippi, that are looking for the two missing people that are still unaccounted for up in that area from the tornadoes,” Ballard said.

There’s no word on when the fire fighters will return from the search. At least seven people have been killed across the southeastern U.S. as fierce spring-like storms hit Wednesday.
