COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) – Columbus has been home to tourists from all over the world since the beginning of the month. Now the Pilgrimage event is coming to a close. The most disappointed to see the event conclude are none other than the local business owners of Columbus who has seen exponential growth in their retail since the pilgrimage began.

“Our business has nearly doubled just in the past couple of weeks with Pilgrimage. We’ve had parties of 15 to 20 back to back to back almost every single day of the week,” said Alysa White, local restaurant owner.

Even specialized businesses took advantage of the influx in tourism and offered additional specials and sales. Owners hope that even if their profit didn’t increase during the event that the exposure will have lasting impact.

“Our goal from pilgrimage is to continue to support Columbus and downtown and hopefully these people that are coming from out of state, out of town will tell their children and grandchildren and maybe bring them back when they have their special day,” said local business owner Corie Walters.

Gloria Herriott, owner of Holly Hocks enjoyed the diversity of Pilgrimage visitors.

“We have had so many international visitors as well as all over the country. It’s just been very exciting.”

The Pilgrimage concluded today with carriage rides, grilling on the river, and bus tours.
