COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) — Columbus has two new assistant chiefs.

The City Council Tuesday night named Tony McCoy as the police department’s new assistant chief. McCoy comes to Columbus after 23 years with the Tupelo Police Department, where he currently is a captain.

McCoy worked with new Columbus chief Tony Carleton when he was chief in Tupelo. He could join the Columbus force by the end of the month.

Meanwhile, battalion chief Mark Ward was promoted to assistant fire chief. Ward has been a long-time firefighter who has worked his way up through the ranks at the department. He fills the spot vacated when Martin Andrews was named fire chief this spring.
