COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) –  Some long-time Columbus employees got a thank you Tuesday (6-18) night. The City Council recognized codes enforcement officer Derek Nash for 28 years with the city and garage superintendent Woody Clark for 26 years of service. City Court Administrator Lou Dudley also was presented a plaque for 28 years of service and Ward 4 Councilman Fred Stewart was recognized for his 15 years on the board. Nash, Clark and Dudley asked to return to work this fall part time but the council rejected the request. State law allows retirees to return to city service at no more than 25 percent of their pay and still collect their state retirement benefits. But they have to wait 90 days.
