LOWNDES COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI) — The rainy weather didn’t stop the Columbus-Lowndes Habitat for Humanity from dedicating a new home. After nearly six months of construction, Daphne Beams and her three children will move into their new home this week.

“We lost our home two years ago to a fire. So we’ve just been living with my parents. We’re just so blessed to be able to get this home. Something that we can call home of our own,” says new homeowner Daphne Beams.

Beams was presented with the keys to her new home along with a specially made quilt and a bible. Dozens of people came out to celebrate with Beams including Tiffany Boykin who received a home through Habitat for Humanity last year.

“We’re still decorating and getting everything situated. We’re actually getting prepared to do our first Thanksgiving dinner in the house this year,” says Boykin.

The Beams residence is the 43rd home built in Lowndes County by Habitat for Humanity. Lynn Robinson and her family are next to become a part of the Habitat tradition.

“It’s not a handout, it’s hand up. Their helping needy families and I think it’s absolutely the greatest organization,” says Lynn Robinson, the next to receive a home through the Habitat for Humanity program.

The Columbus – Lowndes Habitat for Humanity will celebrate it’s 25th Anniversary next month.
