Columbus Math Competition
COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) -It was a full house Thursday morning at the Trotter Convention Center in Columbus for the 26th Annual Math Tournament.
The tournament was hosted by Mississippi School for Mathematics and Science chapter of Mu Alpha Theta. Fifteen schools, both public and private, from across the state of Mississippi competed in the event.
Students who participate will compete in one of four categories for trophies, certificates, medals and ribbons.
“When we first started this school one of the biggest things that we thought about was pay back. The state is funding this and we have an outreach mission and as part of out math and science school we felt that hosting something like this has been very beneficial to the state as well as to our own,” said math teacher Claudia Carter.
Jackson Prep was the overall champ. Among area schools, Heritage finished seventh, Amory eighth and Caledonia ninth.
