Columbus Police Chief Candidate Withdraws

COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) – One candidate drops out of the running for Columbus police chief.

Columbus Human Resources Director Pat Mitchell says Geoffrey Herweg, the Deputy Chief of the Lovington, New Mexico police department, withdrew his name on Thursday morning.

Now, four candidates will be interviewed by the city council on January 19th.

The remaining applicants are Interim Police Chief Fred Shelton, Chief Oscar Lewis of Waynesboro, and Chief Art McClung of Moss Point. All three of those men have ties to the Columbus police department.

The other candidate is Curtis Brame.

He is a commander in North Chicago, Illinois and interviewed for the same position in 2011.
