COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) – Nearly 400 Columbus families will have a brighter Christmas.

Gifts from the police department’s sixth annual toy drive were handed out on Tuesday morning.

Organizations, businesses, and residents all donated to make sure children have something to unwrap this year.

At least $13,000 worth of toys were bought.

Families are happy to have the help from their neighbors.

“This is an awesome opportunity for a lot of people that are not able to get their kids Christmas gifts or are not able to get their kids many Christmas gifts. I think this is a great thing the CPD is doing and a lot of other organizations that’s helping the kids and parents to have a great Christmas,” said recipient Andrea Owens.

The toy drive started earlier this month.

Organizers say residents were very generous and giving, and are thankful for the response.
