Update: Robbery, Kidnapping Suspect in Custody

COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) —  A kidnapped Columbus store clerk is found safe and a robbery suspect is in custody.

It happened at about 4 a.m. at the Shell station on Military Road and Highway 82.

The unidentified suspect entered the store, robbed the two clerks, took one hostage and fled. The clerk later was found safe after being dropped off at a West Point business where she was picked up by West Point police.

At about 9 a.m., West Point, Clay County and Columbus officers picked up a person of interest in West Point.

Columbus police were interviewing the suspect this morning but aren’t releasing further details or names. No word on how much or what was taken during the robbery.

Investigators say the unidentified suspect will be formally charged Thursday.

COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) — Columbus police are investigating an early morning armed robbery.

It happened just after 4 a.m., Wednesday, at the Shell gas station on Military Road.

The suspect is still on the run, and Police Chief Tony Carleton tells WCBI he is considered armed and dangerous.

There was also a possible assault involved.
