Columbus Police Plan Extra Patrols At Shopping Center

COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) – Stores will be opening Thanksgiving night to begin the holiday shopping season.

Police say this is the time of year they see more shoplifters.

Columbus officers say there will extra patrols where people shop.

“With a lot of people out, the people can conceal themselves within the large groups, and that’s why it’s important. So what we’re gonna do in addition to that is to put extra patrols, have officers actually doing walk throughs of the store and try to be a big deterrent,” said Interim Columbus Police Chief Capt. Fred Shelton.

The extra patrols will begin Thursday evening.
