COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) – It was a short run of freedom for a man arrested by Columbus police.

Just after noon on Friday, Bobby Knight opened the back door of a Columbus patrol car and escaped.

The foot chase started near the intersection of College Street and Martin Luther King Drive.

Knight was recaptured in a matter of minutes, a few blocks away at 23rd Street and Third Avenue South.

Columbus police say Knight was being taken to jail on old warrants.
