COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) – The search continues for an interim superintendent for the Columbus school district.

Edna McGill has been temporary interim superintendent since late June, and her contract is up on October 31.

Even though they’ve been collecting resumes, some school board members said at Monday night’s meeting they wanted to develop a timeline to advertise the position.

They motioned to advertise for resumes and applications by next Monday, and to keep it open for 30 days from then.

That motion failed.

McGill tells WCBI she’d like to continue serving in the position.

“The progress that we’ve made so far this year with getting the focus on instruction and on reading is laying the foundation for some very good advances for our students, and I would love to be apart of that,” she said. “I love getting up and coming to work every day.”

McGill also highlighted her goals at the meeting, which are outlined in the school district’s strategic plan.

She says the school district hopes to have the plan finished by December.
