Video: Columbus Seeks Arson Suspect

COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) — As many as 10 suspicious fires in a six block area during th elast nine to 12 months have Columbus leaders asking for the public’s help catching a suspected arsonist.

Most of the fires have been a vacant houses or businesses on the city’s Northside. Three came Thursday and Friday nights, damaging two buildings and destroying a third on Ash and 16th streets and Military Road. Fire Chief Martin Andrews says some persons of interest” have been questioned but no charges filed.

He also says accelerants haven’t been confirmed at any of the locations but none had electricity.

“We just want the community to be aware that we do have an arsonist and any information they can provide us as a community, we need it so we can get to the bottom of it,” said Karriem, in whose ward most of the fires have occurred.
