COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) – The next round of improvements to the new downtown park and soccer complex in Columbus could be finished by May. Weathers Construction has begun work on a new 3,000 square foot building at the south end of the soccer complex.

The $160,000 project will house a concession stand, rest rooms and a referees meeting room. It should be completed by May in time for summer and fall tournaments. City and county crews also may start work this week clearing some areas on the northwest end of the complex for nature parking.

The area is designed to take pressure off street parking at the busy northern fields and complement the extension of Coretta Street to a new trail and traffic exits.
