Video: Congressional Leaders Tour Hardest Hit Areas of Winston County Today
WINSTON COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI) — President Obama declares tornado tattered areas as federal disaster zones. That means help is on the way from Washington.
That is word from Congressional leaders after touring disaster areas in Mississippi today.
Senators Roger Wicker and Thad Cochran were joined by Congressmen Alan Nunnelee and Gregg Harper on a walking tour through the hardest hit areas of Winston County this afternoon.
The lawmakers said that the tornado tattered area will receive federal aid.
Representative Alan Nunnelee shared his assessment.
“As I have been through Winston County this afternoon, I am convinced that the early warning system starting with our National Weather Service working in cooperation with our state and local emergency management and our local media saved lives,” Nunnelee said.
Senator Wicker adds that getting Winston County Medical Center back into operation is a top priority.
