COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI)- Those enjoying the 19th annual Juneteenth Festival in Columbus will be able to have a cold beer.

Two weeks of debate ended Tuesday night, when Columbus Mayor Robert Smith broke a 3-3 tie on the City Council in favor of allowing beer consumption in Sim Scott Park where the festival is held.

Organizers still will have to sell beer on private property across from the park. Smith stipulated the beer must be sold in paper or Styrofoam cups.

The council voted 5 to 1 two weeks ago to deny beer sales in the park. Sales have been allowed in the park during the festival for the last six years.

The festival is June 19th and 20th.
