COLUMBUS, Miss. – (WCBI) Columbus officially has new lines for its six City Council wards for next year’s elections.

Members of the city’s election commission made some minor voting place recommendations during the public hearing on the new districts.

After accepting those recommendations, the council approved the maps, which tentatively had been passed in December. The new lines were required after the city annexed 1,500 residents in September.

Most of the new residents are in Ward 2, which shifted east. The other MAJOR change came in Ward 4, which shifted south to pick up some of the old Ward 2 areas.
