Counterfeit DVDs Land Pontotoc Woman in Jail

TUPELO, Miss. — A Pontotoc County resident has been arrested for selling and producing counterfeit DVD’s in the Tupelo area, announced Attorney General Jim Hood today.

Mildred Jones, 49, of Pontotoc, was arrested earlier this month after a traffic stop on McCullough Boulevard, within the city limits of Tupelo, led to a large stash of allegedly counterfeit CD/DVD’s.

Tips from the general public resulted in the undercover operations where Jones is alleged to have been selling counterfeit goods all across the Lee/Pontotoc Mississippi area.

Investigators with the Attorney General’s Operation Knock Out Knock Offs Task Force were able to seize approximately $ 50,000.00 in alleged counterfeited copyrighted material from Jones.

Law enforcement agents from the Attorney General’s Office Consumer Protection Division, Tupelo Mississippi Police Department, Pontotoc County Sheriff’s Office, North Mississippi Narcotics Unit and Homeland Security Investigations all assisted in the investigation and arrest.

The case is being investigated by Investigator Lee McDivitt with the Attorney General’s Office, Consumer Protection Division and Detective Scott Floyd of the Tupelo Police Department and will be prosecuted by Assistant Attorney General Patrick Beasley, Director of the Attorney General’s Office Consumer Protection Division.

If found guilty Jones faces up to eight years in prison. As with all cases, the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
