Court Date Set for Rust College Sex Abuse Case

OXFORD, Miss. (WCBI) – A trial date has officially been set for the Rust College civil suit. The suit alleges that the college knowingly re-hired a sex offender who allegedly raped a woman in 2012.

In the early 2000s, Sylvester Oliver, a former professor at the college, was asked to resign for inappropriate sexual conduct. Oliver was also fired in 2006 by the Memphis City Schools for allegedly raping a student.

After the incident in Memphis, he was re-hired by Rust College. The defendant in the Rust case remains unnamed, but alleges Oliver raped her in 2012. He has since then resigned from the college.

The trial is scheduled for July 2015.
