Crappie Masters National Championship

COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) – Local celebrities and dignitaries had their chance to fish with the pros Thursday (10/4) morning.

The Crappie Masters National Championship is in Columbus for the week, and kicked things off on the Tenn-Tom with a media contest.  Each contestant was paired with a professional team, hoping to land the biggest catch. A kid’s contest also took place. Two young anglers scored the big prize of a $4,000 scholarship.

“I wasn’t expecting to win because this is a learning experience for me. This is my first time Crappie fishing, it’s overwhelming,” says scholarship winner Caleb Roberson.

“I’m surprised that I won because I didn’t think I was gonna win anything,” says scholarship winner Karleigh Phillips.

The actual competition takes place Friday and Saturday. You can go to the weigh in’s on Friday at 4:30 or Saturday at 3:00, at the Columbus Marina.
