TUPELO, Miss. (WCBI)- After winning a historic election, 16th District Attorney Scott Colom will be awarded the 2016 Mississippi Trailblazer of the year.

The Mississippi Trailblazer Award is given to people who are making contributions to racial and cultural diversity through public service.

Colom will recieve the award at an annual gala in Tupelo at the Bancorsouth Conference Center.

The black tie event will also feature a banquet with live jazz.

The Bryan Family of West Point will recieve the “Sam Huskell Spirit of America” Award.

A special tribute will be given to North Mississippi Civil Rights Leader, Dr. Howard Gunn.

The gala will be held May 21st at 6:00 P.M.
