Death Row Inmate’s Family Files Law Suit

OXFORD, Miss. (WCBI) – The Mississippi Innocence Project and the brother of Death Row Inmate, Willie Manning, filed suit on Friday to test Manning’s DNA even after his execution.

The FBI examiner in Manning’s case testified that the hairs analyzed belonged to a black person. That testimony was used as evidence to argue that Willie Manning was guilty. No physical evidence linked Manning to the crime scene except the FBI’s hair expert testimony. The examiner’s testimony has since been deemed false.

Willie Manning is scheduled for execution on May 7th for the December 1992 murders of Jon Steckler and Tiffany Miller. The Mississippi Supreme Court split 5 to 4 last week on whether Mr. Manning should have the right to do DNA testing taken from the victims before he’s executed. Mr. Manning has been seeking DNA testing since 2001.
