STARKVILLE, Miss. (WCBI) Every bulldog fan is looking forward to seeing Mississippi State play for their first national title tomorrow night. But for some of the team’s most seasoned supporters, this game means something special.

“I never though I’d live to see Mississippi State play for a national title in anything, in any sport, but baseball is really something special,” said Mississippi State alum Bill Gavin.

After Mississippi States win on Friday, countless fans have been traveling to Omaha for the Championship games. While students have been thrilled to see their school doing so well, fans who have been following the bulldogs for decades can best appreciate this drastic change of luck.

“All my life, I was born here, so I’ve been a State fan all my life. My great grandfather built Lee Hall, the oldest building on campus.
Fans who have history attending and teaching at the university have been bleeding maroon and white before the Left Field Lounge was even built,” said Starkville resident Carol McReynolds Davis.

“I grew up watching baseball at Mississippi State. As I became a student over there when Ron Polk was there. I feel like I’ve been a part of that program ever since it really got its first indoctrination,” said Gavin.

“We have the great chance of winning the first national championship that Mississippi State has ever won. And for the whole state of Mississippi. It is something special,” said Frank Davis.

This championship games symbolizes more than an impressive season record, it means recognition the city they have called home all their lives.

“It’s going to put us on the map. We’ve come so far and they look so nice in their uniforms- the striped uniforms. They’re just so respectful of everybody and they’re representing all of us well,” said McReynolds Davis.

“History in any sport comes with the people that are involved with it. And that’s with fans and I think you’ll see that tomorrow night, Monday night, at the game with all the fans that’ll show it. It’ll be special,” said Gavin.

MSU Alumni officials say the Alumni meeting for this Tuesday has been canceled due to the College World Series Championship game.
