Deputy Recovering After Being Hit By Car

MOOREVILLE, Miss. (AP) – A Lee County sheriff’s deputy is being treated for injuries after being struck by a vehicle.

The Mississippi Highway Patrol responded to the scene around 11 p.m. Saturday.

A spokesman tells the Northeast Mississippi Daily Journal (http://bit.ly/1sPFwq3 ) deputies were conducting a roadside safety checkpoint on Highway 371 near Mooreville, when a vehicle driven by 45-year-old Audonus D. Taylor, of Fulton, struck one of the deputies after failing to stop for officers at the checkpoint.

The deputy, who was not named, was taken to North Mississippi Medical Center with moderate injuries.

Taylor, who was uninjured, was arrested and charged with DUI.

It was unclear whether Taylor has an attorney.
