COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) –  Organizers closed down Catfish Alley this weekend for a two day celebration in honor of Sallie Mae Jones, an African American  businesswoman who owned and operated Jones Restaurant.

Family and friends of the Columbus community came out for a special program in honor of the woman and to remember what an influence she was when she was alive.

“Had she been living she would have been 100 years old today so we started out with the kick off remembering how it was back in the day for  Catfish Alley. In honor of Mrs. Sallie Mae Jones to remember what she stood for as an individual, as a business woman, as a mother, as a friend, etc,” said daughter Laura Chalmers.

The program featured special speakers of the family to talk about Sallie Mae Jones.
