LOUISVILLE, Miss. (WCBI) — Mississippi State University’s ?College of Education is stepping outside of Starkville and into the surrounding communities.

The DREAMS program is a five year program, that hopes to give at-risk students a new way to view education.

The program is geared towards students K through 4th, whom may be behind in school.

Strategies to increase vocabulary, reading fluency, and problem solving, using hands on activities.

But there is one specific key to success.

“The secret to our success is confidence. A lot of students don’t believe they can do it, but when they see that they can, it helps to improve their grades,” says, Chiquita Carter

Teachers & students have seen vast improvements since the start of  dreams.

Carter goes on to say, “From them having the skills already and needing a little push to know they can accomplish great things.”

With the new techniques of learning, grade scores have increased as well as their desire to learn new material.

“They are excited to learn. They look forward to coming. When you ask them what they are learning they can tell you,” says Rebecca Robichaux-Davis.

The program will continue for another 3 years, with enrichment programs taking place over the summers to make sure students are continuing to learn.
