Elderly Columbus Man Accused Of Raping Child

COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) – An elderly Columbus man is accused of raping a child.

Tony Lee Springer, 72, is charged with statutory rape and molesting-touching a child for lustful purposes.

Investigators are not releasing much about the case.

Interim Police Chief Captain Fred Shelton tells WCBI Springer knew the victim.

The investigation started last week and Springer was arrested a short time later.

His bond was set at $15,000.
