Two North Mississippi counties with some of the state’s most chronic unemployment see big job gains.

Clay and Noxubee counties joined a parade of improved employment news in March as the number of people working was up in 22 of 24 counties across the region compared to March of last year.

Only Kemper and Winston saw declines over the year.

Overall, the state’s jobless picture was not a full point to 6.8 percent. But despite almost 19,000 more people working across the state, Mississippi still tied Nevada for the nation’s highest unemployment rate.
