SALTILLO, Miss. (WCBI)- Students at Saltillo Elementary School, spent their morning doing a little Christmas shopping.

On Friday, the school hosted its 8th annual Enriching Lives Forever fundraiser, which benefits LeBonheur and St. Jude Children’s hospital.

A tax free christmass shopping spree is what students at Saltillo Elementary experienced on Friday.

Books, pursers, and even classic Disney movies were just a few of the items students were able to get their hands on.

“I bought a couple of movies, some CD’s, a bag, and some puzzles,” Saltillo Elementary student Carley Fryery said

As the students went digging for gifts, many of them used this as an opportunity to go ahead and purchase Christmas gifts for family members.

“I bought a book for my mom, a book for my sister and a book for me,” Saltillo Elementary student Avery Lewis said.

“The whole school look forward to it every year, but they love it when they can buy gifts for mom and day, brother and sister, they definitely come prepared,” Saltillo Elementary school teacher Peggy Tubbs said.

The students got the giftss but kids 90 miles away get the benefits  All of the money raised will go towards LeBonheur and St. Jude Children’s hospital.

Peggy Tubbs teaches at the school, and said for some students, the fundraiser goes deeper than just purchasing items.

“We’ve had children that have benefited from LeBonheur, and a lot of them will say, oh I’ve been to LeBonheur before with different things, so a lot of them have a personal touch with it,” Tubbs said.

Throughout the school year, students donated gently used toys, scarfs, and even jewelry to be purchased at the fundraiser.

Tubss said, giving is the ultimate lesson this fundraiser teaches the students.

“This is a way that everyone in our school can give, give to the cause to help children their age and all ages, this is a way they can personally give,” Tubbs said.

All of the money raised from the fundraiser will be divided, with half going towards, LeBonhuer Children’s Hospital and the other half going towards St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
