Epps Tells Marshals ‘Well Done’

Caught in Georgia

JACKSON, Miss. – Mississippi Department of Corrections (MDOC) Commissioner Christopher B. Epps Tuesday (9-25) commended the United States Marshals Service (USMS) and the MDOC’s Corrections Investigation Division for their unrelenting efforts to capture an escaped inmate.

Mississippi State Penitentiary inmate Michael Dowda, MDOC #R7390,  escaped September 22, 2012, while on a work detail with maintenance at the Parchman facility.

Through the joint investigation of the Corrections Investigation Division and the Marshals Service in Mississippi and Georgia, Dowda was captured near a motel in Macon, Ga. about 12:30 a.m. Tuesday (9-25).

Dowda faces extradition to Mississippi and multiple charges including escape.

The 2005 Silverado truck and two handguns Dowda allegedly stole from an MDOC employee’s home were recovered.

“Just yesterday, the U.S. Marshals celebrated 223 years of service to America,” Commissioner Epps stated.

“MDOC stands proudly with you and we thank you, as the oldest federal law enforcement entity in the United States, for being our partner for justice, integrity and service.  We are thankful this individual was arrested with no one being injured.”
