COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) – Elected officials soliciting festival and event funding from Lowndes County’s primary tourism group may come to an end. The Convention and Visitors Bureau Board stopped short Monday (1/28) afternoon of no longer granting financial support to the four major events where either supervisors or city council members are major organizers. Those two bodies appoint CVB members. Instead, they agreed to study a compromise. But it was clear from today’s discussion that board members want to end the practice. Interestingly, the legislation that created the CVB bans the practice but the board has never abided by that law.
