Video: Expungement Workshop Held for Former Convicts

STARKVILLE, Miss. (WCBI)- A criminal conviction can hold a person back, even after they’ve straightened their life out .

Wednesday night at the Starkville Sports Plex, some residents learned about a program that can help them clear their record.

The Brickfire Project hosted an Expungement Workshop, dubbed “Project Clean Slate.”

Workshop Organizer, Cheikh Taylor, says It connects former offenders with attorneys, so they can begin the process.

“When you have brushes with the law, and you are able to redeem yourself,  this gives the people opportunity to do that,” Taylor explained. “If there is something that is expungeable, that is holding them back from school or work or even a better job, this is an opportunity to clean that up.”

Organizers hope to host more workshops in the future.
