LOWNDES COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI) — Family members of the inmate who died in the Lowndes County jail continue to look for answers into his death.

41-year-old Orlando Guyton died in custody in December, but in a press conference Wednesday morning, his family says they still haven’t heard anything new.

They want to know how he died.

The preliminary report shows Guyton died of natural causes, but the family doesn’t believe that’s the case.

Lowndes County Coroner Greg Merchant tells WCBI he’s still waiting on the final autopsy report from the state medical examiner, and believes it’ll be complete soon.

Guyton’s family says they just want justice, and closure.

“We’re still from ground one from December 21 when my brother died, and we don’t know anything,” said Elizabeth Guyton Harris, Guyton’s sister. “We loved him, and we want to know. We’re not going away. That’s just it. We’re not going away until we find out what happened to our brother.”

Merchant says he’s told the family he will release the final report as soon as possible.

The Mississippi Bureau of Investigation says it won’t release the toxicology test results until the final autopsy is complete.

Guyton’s family says they’ve also gotten an independent autopsy, but they’re still waiting on those results, as well.
