FBI: Tupelo Bank Robber Connected To Attempt In Atlanta
“We now believe on the morning of December 23rd, the same subject was responsible for the robbery of , attempted bank robbery of a Bank of America location in Atlanta, Georgia,” said Special Agent in Charge of the Jackson, Mississippi FBI office Daniel McMullen.
Tupelo Police Sgt. Gale Stauffer was shot and killed during the hold-up. Officer Joseph Maher was injured in the shootout with the bank robbery suspect at the South Gloster BancorpSouth branch.
The suspect is described as being about 5′ 8″ to 6′. He wore a facemask, a shirt or jacket with an “Aztec” pattern, khaki pants, and white tennis shoes.
“The suspect’s vehicle is described as a gray sedan, possibly a late-model Chrysler 200,” is how an FBI wanted poster described the car that is possibly being driven by the suspect. Previously, investigators have said it might also be a rental car.
The masked gunman is considered armed and dangerous. Law enforcement say the manhunt is now a nation-wide effort.
The reward for information leading to an arrest is now $202,500.
