Federal Inmate Found Unresponsive in Lafayette County Detention Center

OXFORD, Miss. (Press Release) — At approximately 7:00 a.m., the United States Marshals Service (USMS) received a call from the Lafayette County Detention Center reporting the death of federal inmate Bobby Allen Osborne. USMS personnel responded to the scene.

The Mississippi Bureau of Investigation (MBI) was notified and is handling the investigation.

A preliminary investigation revealed that Osborne’s death was a result of an apparent suicide. The body was transported by the Lafayette County Coroner to the Mississippi Crime Lab in Jackson, Mississippi for an autopsy.

Osborne was being held at the Lafayette County Detention Center on charges of transporting a minor to engage in illegal sexual activity, persuading a minor to travel in interstate commerce to engage in illegal sexual activity, using means of interstate commerce to persuade a minor to engage in illegal sexual activity, and traveling in interstate commerce to engage in illegal sexual activity with a minor.

Osborne also had pending charges in South Carolina.
