HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (AP) – State officials say Alabama troopers will have less of a presence than in past years at major events such as Mardi Gras, Talladega and FootWash.

Alabama Law Enforcement Agency Secretary Spencer Collier said the troopers will continue to help provide security at major events, but not at the same level they used to.

Al.com reports that the shift is part of a financial squeeze caused by a cut in the ALEA’s budget.

ALEA’s budget last year was $55.7 million.

This year, the budget is $44.6 million – a cut of about $11 million.
