Fiery Crash Claims Life in Chickasaw County

CHICKASAW COUNTY, Miss. (MHP Press Release) — A three-vehicle crash this afternoon in Chickasaw County  claims the life of a Houston man.

The accident occurred this afternoon on Highway 15 around 12:10 p.m. a mile north of Wesley Chapel Road.  A black 2012 Dodge Ram driven by 36-year-old Justin Thomas of Houston was southbound on Highway 15 when it drifted into the northbound lane and hit the left rear of a northbound 2011 white International 6-wheeler hauling steel driven by 49-year-old Thomas Taylor of Nettleton.

The 6-wheeler ran off of the west side of the road and overturned.

The Dodge then collided head on with a north bound 2004 Frito Lay van driven by 48-year-old Franklin Hollis of Vardaman.

Both the Dodge and Frito Lay van caught on fire in the roadway.

Thomas was pronounced dead at the scene by the Chickasaw County coroner.

Hollis and Taylor were transported to NMMC Tupelo with serious injuries.

The accident remains under investigation by the MHP.
