Fighting The Good Fight

COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI)- Receiving the news that you or someone in your family has cancer is always devastating.

For one local Columbus family, David and Norma Brown, they are dealing with the disease and all of the hardships that come with it.

July, 26th is the day David Brown’s life changed forever.   After having dizzy spells, and seeing a decrease in his energy, Brown decided to take a trip to the doctor.

“They called me into the emergency room, they said, let’s go in there and do a CAT Scan of your head, and they found a mass on my brain, a tumor, so it had to be removed, and it was, successfully,” Brown said.

But then, more bad news followed.

“When they set the tumor off, It was found out that it was caused by the prostate cancer, so the prostate cancer had spread from my prostate to my brain, and they found it in my bones, they found it in different places in my body,” he said.

Brown said, the devastating news turned his world upside down.   He was forced to quit his job as a truck driver.

And Now, between medical bills and driving back and forth to doctor visits, things have become hard for Brown and his family.

“It has somewhat, we had a little bit put back, and that’s now depleted with him not working since July,” Brown’s wife, Norma Brown said.

That’s why dozens came out to the cancer benefit to donate money and show their support for Brown and his family.

“It’s very touching to know that these people have reached out for me, I’m not used to receiving, I’m used to giving,” he said.

Brown is currently in Stage Four of his cancer. But with his family and community in his corner supporting him, brown says he’s determined to put up a good fight.

“I’m going to try and do everything I can to stop it, and I hope the good lord blesses me, and gives me a miracle, and takes it away is what I’m hoping for,” Brown said.
Despite having prostate cancer, Brown said he’s still having fun and enjoying life.
