STARKVILLE, Miss. (WCBI) – The Starkville Fire Department partners with the Starkville Housing Authority to provide a shelter for fire victims.

The shelter, set to open in June, will serve individuals or families who are displaced because of a fire.

The shelter will be at the former Brickfire building in Pecan Acres and fire department staff will do all the remodeling.

Construction is set to begin this month. It will include adding a shower and painting.

There will be no cost to the city, but Chief Charles Yarbrough is seeking donations from businesses to help with construction and materials.

The Housing Authority will cover utilities.
