COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) – For the third year in a row, the Bass Pro Shops Crappie Masters Fishing Tournament is in town. Seventy fisherman from ten states are competing for a $10,000 purse. Organizers say it’s not only a way to keep kids in the creeks and off the streets, it’s also an economic boost to the local economy.

“It will be about a $400,000 impact from the time they (anglers) made their visit here, pre-fish and of course come back here and compete for 4-5 days. They’re actually practicing for the three days and competing for two days,” said Crappie Masters President, Paul Alpers.

The kids rodeo will kick off Saturday, May 18 at 9:00am. Registrations begins at 8:30am at the Columbus Marina.
