MONROE COUNTY, MISS. (WCBI) – – Flash flooding watches have been issued across many areas in the state over the past few days. One area that filled with inches and feet of water was Monroe County. Waves swimming over trees, bottoms of homes filled with water, and cars swept off the road describes what’s been going on in Monroe County. Sheriff Cecil Cantrell said roads were washed out on Friday and Saturday and that many people had to leave to their homes.

“Our part of the country is not fixed for that. It’s just not because I mean, we’re in a low area and it doesn’t take a whole lot of rain to put the river out and all these creeks and things.”

According to MEMA there is much damage in the area including fifty homes in non-living conditions. The sheriff wants residents to drive with caution on country roads and throughout the county as flood waters continue to dry. More rain is expected.
