Florida Woman Dies From Injuries in Itawamba Crash

ITAWAMBA COUNTY, Miss. — The Mississippi Highway Patrol is still investigating a Friday afternoon crash in Itawamba County that claimed the life of a Florida woman.

Troopers responded to Highway 78, approximately one mile west of Highway 25, at 5:20 p.m., Friday, Oct. 10.

Upon arriving it appeared Janay B Douglas, 22, of Lake Panasoffkee, Fla., was traveling west on Highway 78, in a 2000 Hyundai Elantra, when she apparently lost control of her vehicle, which left the roadway and struck a tree.

Douglas was transported to North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo. She died Monday, October 13, from injuries sustained in the crash.

Rain and high winds contributed to the crash, according to the report from the investigating Trooper.

Douglas was not wearing a seatbelt.
