Former Bailiff Wants Future Pay From Tupelo

ABERDEEN, Miss. (AP) — A former Tupelo municipal court bailiff wants five years of future pay or to return to her job.

Last week, a federal court jury awarded Latisha Mitchell $65,000 in damages against the city for discrimination. The jury found the city had mishandled her employment after she was injured on the job and later terminated her because she filed complaints.

Her attorney is asking a federal judge to order the city to pay her for five years as if she were still working for the city. As an alternative, he asks that she be returned to her $40,000 a year job.

The motion was filed Thursday in U.S. District Court in Aberdeen.

Five years’ of front pay would be about $150,000.

The City of Tupelo has not responded to the motion.
