NOXUBEE COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI) — One of Noxubee County’s most historic structures is officially 100 years old.

The two-story Salem school building on Hwy 14 east of Macon was built in 1914.

The building has been vacant for more than 50 years.

The Noxubee County Historic Society had the building placed on the national register of historic places in 1989.

The designation helped to the county do work to stabilize the building’s roof, walls and window.

A group of Salem area residents recently purchased the building from the historic society with hopes to preserve it.
