Former Senator Trent Lott Signs Book Copies

TUPELO, Miss. (WCBI) – The former majority leader of the U.S. Senate says things can be improved between Democrats and Republicans on Capitol Hill.

Former Senator Trent Lott was in Tupelo at Reed’s Gumtree Bookstore signing copies of his new book, “Crisis Point.”

The book was written with former Senator Tom Daschle, a liberal Democrat.

Lott says the book encourages lawmakers to work together for the good of the country, despite their differences.

Lott and Daschle suggest three things to improve things in Washington D.C.

“Number one is communicate, number two, develop a chemistry, Tom Daschle and I respected each other, I trusted him , we never surprised each other and we became friends and when you have that kind of relationship, it’s amazing what you can achieve. The other thing we’re missing now, what is the vision America, where do we want to be in ten years, internationally and economically, what are we going to do about our budget deficits, which are a concern for everybody, regardless of philosophy or party,” said Lott.

Lott and Daschle also suggest having one national primary day, instead of primaries for each state leading up to the presidential election.
