Video: Four Sentenced in Massive Alcorn Animal Abuse Case

ALCORN COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI) — The four people behind a massive puppy mill operation in Alcorn County plead guilty Thursday. Larry and Juanita Meeks, and Orville and Gloria Greenhaw were charged with misdemeanor animal abuse charges back in October.

Rescuers from the Humane Society of the United States seized more than 170 animals from the couples’ home. Each were sentenced to 90 days behind bars, which was suspended.

All four face a $500 fine, and lifetime ownership ban of animals. They were sentenced in Alcorn County Justice Court.

(Feb. 4, 2015) – Defendants from two suspected Alcorn County, Mississippi puppy mills pleaded guilty to misdemeanor animal abuse charges in Alcorn County Justice Court. Each of the four defendants received a suspended 90-day jail sentence, a $500 fine, and a lifetime ownership ban on all animals. Judge Jimmy McGee presided over the case.

The Humane Society of the United States, along with the Alcorn-Corinth Animal Shelter and other local groups, rescued 171 dogs, puppies and other animals in October 2014.

“We’re pleased to see the Alcorn County taking animal cruelty so seriously. We hope this ruling will make others think twice before putting profit above making animals suffer in terrible conditions. We’re so grateful to the Alcorn-Corinth Animal Shelter and the Alcorn County Sheriff’s Department for stepping up to help these animals and all of the groups working to find the animals loving homes.”
