Funeral For Iraq War Vet Set

COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) – Services have been set for an Iraq War veteran and Purple Heart recipient from Columbus who was killed outside a West Virginia bar.

Visitation for 28-year-old Samson Edmund will be held Saturday from 3:00 to 8:00 pm at Carter’s Funeral Home in Columbus. The funeral service will be Sunday at 2 p-m at West Lowndes High School.

Edmund died after being shot early Sunday morning outside a restaurant in Martinsburg, West Virginia.

He earned a Purple Heart after being injured by an IED while serving in Iraq in 2005 and 2006. He was serving with the Mississippi National Guard’s 114th field artillery unit.

 Edmund was a specialist in the national guard and had recently relocated to West Virginia.

 Authorities in West Virginia have not made an arrest in connection with his death.
