Gas Prices Spike Back Up

GOLDEN TRIANGLE AREA, Miss. (WCBI)- If you’ve been to the gas pumps lately, you might have noticed a rise in the gas prices.

On average, in our area, gas prices now are roughly around $1.73 or higher.

“It was $1.53 last weekend, and it’s gone up to $1.73 this weekend,” said Tammy Chobotor, assistant manager of Sprint Mart in Starkville.

Chobotor said in the past week, gas prices have increased by 20 cents.

“Due to the economy, the flooding and steady raining we’re having in Louisiana and the oil wells that are affected by that, and plus the holidays and spring break coming up,” said Chobotor.

However despite the spike in the gas prices, Kanzin Niswonger said that hasn’t stopped business at the gas station she works at.

“No, it hasn’t affected us at all people are still going to buy their gas whether prices are up or down,” said Niswonger.

“A lot of them have been coming in the last couple of days getting ready to go out of town,” said Chobotor.

And one of those people getting gas as they prepare to go out of town is Telvin Hadley, and he said he isn’t happy with the recent spike.

“I’m not happy with the gas prices, but I mean, I’m making it, I’m able to get from point A to point B sometimes C if I need to,” said Hadley.

Hadley said he has a big weekend planned and this current rise in gas prices isn’t slowing him down.

“I just filled blue magic up and I’m actually getting ready to head to Jackson when I leave here and I’m going to Hattiesburg tomorrow, So I’m able to still make my moves,” said Hadley.
