Video: Update: Highway 82 Reopen in Pickens County, Alabama

PICKENS COUNTY, Ala. (WCBI) – Highway 82 in Pickens County, Ala. has reopened.  Monday morning,  a tanker carrying fuel overturned, forcing officials to close a stretch of the highway and reroute traffic much of the day.

The accident happened in the westbound lane, about 8 AM.

Pickens County Emergency Management Agency Director Ken Gibson estimates 200-300 gallons of gasoline leaked out of the tanker.

It was carrying 9,000 gallons.

Alabama state troopers say the driver of the truck was airlifted to a Tupelo hospital with non life-threatening injures.

The tanker is owned by Gray Transportation out of New Albany, Mississippi.

Gibson says the company will hire a clean-up crew.
